In case you missed it...
On Thursday 6th November, we had the pleasure to host an informative webinar with David Whittaker and James Liffen of Mishcon de Reya LLP as well as KIRE’s Co-founder and Head of Sales, Michael McHale.
The discussion focused on the anticipated UK Autumn Budget and its potential tax reforms affecting prime London property. With high uncertainty and speculation in the press, the panel explored how possible changes, ranging from stamp duty reform to inheritance and exit taxes, could influence buyer and seller behaviour, market liquidity, and broader investor sentiment.
Key discussion points:
Buyers and sellers are in a state of limbo, either rushing to exchange before the 26 November budget or holding off to see what’s announced.
Capital Gains Tax (CGT) on Primary Residences would be a major blow to domestic homeowners; international buyers might be less affected.
Possible extension of the 7-year gift tail to 10 or 12 years.
Wealth Tax: Seen by the panel as most damaging for the UK’s competitiveness and investor sentiment.
